Natural Supplements

Red Clover – This beauty is so much better than the four-leaf kind. Besides being used for hormonal imbalances that happen during the stages of menopause, it can also help with bone density lowering high cholesterol and high blood pressure.

Red Clover has also been shown to treat conditions like eczema and psoriasis. (1)

Maca Root – Maca Root is a nutrient dense adaptagenic tuber found in the Andes of Peru.
One thing to note is that there are 13 varieties of Maca Root each with their own medicinal properties that are still being researched.

The overall highlights of Maca Root are a boost in energy, hormonal balance, pms relief, boost in libido, bone health and liver and enzyme support. (2)

Ashwagandha – Ashwagandha is an amazing herb that has been used for nearly 5,000 years in India. While it is being used for many different conditions, for the purpose of this post I am going to focus on menopausal issues.

This little herb is known for reducing anxiety and depression (which can be part of mood swings), can help reduce stress, stabilizes blood sugar, improved sleep, help lower cholesterol and improve libido. (3)

Essential Oils

Clary Sage –  Clary Sage oil is used for many things including improved circulation, stress relief, improved digestion and has anti-depressant properties.

Clary Sage can be used as aromatherapy, ingested or topically on the skin with a carrier oil. (4)

Sandalwood  – Sandalwood has been used for centuries in Eastern religious ceremonies.  Sandalwood is known for its ability to increase alertness, promote restful sleep and lessen anxiety.

Thyme – Thyme is actually a “living mulch” with origins in Greece.  It is used as an anti depressant, anti-microbial, hormone balancing, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial powerhouse.(6)

While we all know of thyme as a kitchen herb for cooking, using an oil may be more beneficial in the long run.  Thyme oil can be ingested, aromatherapy and topically. (7)

Cautions – Black Cohosh and St. John’s Wort.

I had these in my list of supplements but as I was doing my research I was surprised at what I found. Both seem very controversial, have many side effects and do not mix well with many prescribed medications. (8)(9)


My Personal Solution
